Mabedi compensation battle

Patrick Mabedi compensation battle intensified after the Industrial Relations Court ruled that his dismissal from the Malawi national team was unfair. He now seeks MK916.7 million, an amount he says reflects unpaid benefits and contractual obligations.

The court found that the Football Association of Malawi failed to follow proper procedure before removing him in October 2024. Mabedi argues that he never received formal charges or a chance to defend himself. The ruling by Deputy Chairperson Wyson Nkhata confirmed liability, allowing him to pursue full compensation.

Legal strategy gains momentum

His lawyer, David Kanyenda, previously secured MK440 million for former Flames coach Meke Mwase in a similar case. That outcome strengthens Mabedi’s confidence as he prepares for the next hearing on April 28. The FA’s legal representative missed the previous session, which forced a postponement.

Coaching background and experience

Mabedi signed a two‑year contract but served only 11 months before the FA cited performance concerns. He disputes that explanation, highlighting his UEFA A Licence and work with respected coaches including Craig Rosslee, Muhsin Ertugral, Steve Komphela, Giovanni Solinas, and Peter Mponda. His playing career included two league titles with Kaizer Chiefs, achievements that shaped his leadership profile.

Next steps in the dispute

The upcoming hearing will determine whether the FA must pay the full amount. Mabedi’s camp believes the ruling already places responsibility on the association, while the FA prepares its defence.
