George Weah Condemns CAF After Senegal Lose AFCON Title to Morocco. The former African and World Footballer of the Year criticised CAF for stripping Senegal of the 2025 AFCON title and awarding it to Morocco, calling the decision damaging and unjustified.

CAF Ruling Sparks Continental Outrage

CAF’s Appeal Board overturned Senegal’s 1–0 victory after ruling that the team’s walk‑off during a late penalty incident constituted a forfeit. The match was reclassified as a 3–0 win for Morocco, making the hosts champions. He argued that the ruling lacks sporting and legal foundation, citing FIFA’s Laws of the Game.

Weah Calls the Verdict “Absurd” and “Damaging”

Weah described the decision as harmful to the integrity of African football. He warned that it “scarred and blemished” the sport’s credibility and undermined confidence in fair competition. He insisted that results must be decided on the pitch, not through administrative intervention.

Senegal Backed as Pressure Mounts on CAF

The former Liberian president urged CAF to reconsider the ruling and emphasised that referees hold final authority once a match concludes. He referenced Law 5 of FIFA’s Laws of the Game, stressing that completed results must stand. Calls for independent review continue to grow as Senegal challenge the verdict.
